ABOUT MIM
Mentors in Motion (MIM) was founded in 2009 to coordinate and facilitate programming to meet the needs of at risk youth aged from 11 -17 years in the St Louis Metropolitan area through S.T.R.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Reading, Entrepenurialship, Arts and Music!
Specifically, MIM reaches and positively guides St. Louis City youth that have potentially run out of choices towards a positive future, youth that are on the cusp of making negative life changing decisions, and the youth that have not been afforded opportunities to fulfill a destiny that does not involve the criminal justice system.
Mentors in Motion Testimonial
Mentors In Motion creates and captures value by working with community and nonprofit leaders in an effort to improve the lives of children in the St. Louis region. By creating prevention programs for the youth and young adults to channel talents and energies into constructive, skill-building activities, also providing assessments in health and behavioral settings so that individuals will have an idea of their health/behavioral status.
MIM has been able to capture and create a market for schools and agencies to refer clients. For the smaller number of youth who became involved in serious problem behaviors, intervention and treatment services are required and offered. By providing these various services to the community, we are able to have a positive impact on the well-being of our children and the safety of our neighborhoods.

WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS HAS BECOME ONE
OF THE FIRST PLACES NAMED IN TERMS OF HIGH CRIME RATES,
......with a disturbingly high number of youthful offenders. In regard to violent crimes alone, youthful offenders, under the age of 21 account for 69% of all offenses. While it is true that a disproportionate number of minority youth are subjected to disparages economically, educationally, and socially, it cannot be ignored that due to these differences, minority youth commit crimes at an extremely high rate of occurrence.
A day in the life of a young minority person, living in the area which MIM is based is wrought with gunfire, gang influence, poverty, unemployment, and sparse education. Statistically speaking, African Americans represented twenty six percent of all juvenile arrests in 2008 and of those fifty eight percent were detained in state correctional institutions.
1. In Missouri alone, there were over 32,000 juvenile arrests made,
2. These numbers are not lowering they are rising month to month.
In the 63107 zip code area, which is the base operating zip code for MIM,
twenty-six percent of the residents aged 25 and under have lower than a
high school diploma with thirteen percent possessing less than a ninth grade education,
3. Coupled with lower than average test scores of current students,
these statistics are a recipe for criminal activity.
The median income for the 63107 zip code is $19,353.00 which is well below the Missouri average median income of $34,078.
With a bleak future facing them, minority youth of this area, and of St. Louis City as a whole need programming that will encourage, instruct, and motivate them to work beyond the statistical expectations, and MIM is
prepared to help them do just that. Using the examples that these at risk youth face every day as tools to succeed, while implementing an extremely hands on forward thinking approach.
Mentors In Motion will utilize the young people’s skills, whether they be musically, mechanically, or athletically inclined, to master their future and aim higher than the stark realities they come face to face with each day. Help us make a difference!
